About Us

Heckmondwike Primary School is a larger than average primary school situated in Heckmondwike, an old industrial town in the heart of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The school was created in 1995 by the amalgamation of Heckmondwike Junior School and Battye Street Infant and Nursery School and serves a culturally diverse population, which is reflected within the school’s own community.

The catchment area of the school contains a variety of housing, e.g private, housing association and rented properties.  This broad spectrum of social and economic backgrounds is reflected on the school roll (currently 446 children) plus 52 nursery places.

The school is part of the Spenborough Co-operative Trust which formed in 2012.  This is a group of seven geographically close but contextually varied schools working together based on the Co-operative principles of Self-help, Self-responsibility, Democracy, Equality, Equity and Solidarity.
